An one-day metal festival opens its gates in Athens on Wednesday the 4th of April 2007: the March Metal Day! A day with great live appearances from smashing names in two stages, parallel activities, lots of surprises, competitions and much positive energy for 12 hours NON STOP! On April 4th, 12 bands for 12 hours will march in front of thousands of metallers. People from all over Greece and neighbor counties, either metal fanatics or simply rock lovers are to participate from noon to midnight in an ultimate festival day along with thousands of other people of the same "tribe"! When Sabbath played a show at Newcastle City Hall in England, he hooked up with original Manowar guitarist Ross the Boss, who at the time was playing for Shakin Street, a Sabbath support band. As both shared an all-consuming love for in-your-face-metal, it was not long before they struck on the idea of Manowar. Later, having recruited the ultimate voice of heavy metal, Eric Adams (and drummer Donny Hamzik), Manowar recorded their debut album "Battle Hymns." It featured a bone chilling narration by legendary actor Orson Welles on the track "Dark Avenger." When Manowar joined forces with a new label, they signed their recording contract in blood (becoming the first band to demonstrate their commitment this way). Their second release, "Into Glory Ride" featured the debut of Scott Columbus, a man so viscous with the sticks that standard drum kits simply fell to pieces under his awesome attack-hence the need for custom built, stainless steel drums. Recorded and mixed in six days, Manowar's third album was titled "Hall to England." It heralded the band's debut tour of Great Britain. Not since the Vikings invaded northeast England in 878 had the isles seen such all-consuming power. The whole of Europe fell prey to Manowar with the "Spectacle Of Might" tour as the band slashed and burned their way across the Continent in support of their forth album, "Sign Of The Hammer." It was then that Manowar entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's loudest band. On the heels of "Sign Of The Hammer", the band released "Fighting The World." Manowar took the whole of Europe by storm yet again in support of this record. All the while, the crowds swelled. Manowar satisfied the teeming hordes by playing wilder, louder, and heavier inviting fans to join them onstage to sing or even play guitar. The band's next album "Kings Of Metal" (a title bestowed on the men of Manowar by their international legion of fans) saw them push the sonic envelope even further. They traveled to England to record "The Crown and the Ring" as well as other standout tracks, with the 100-voice, all-male Canoldir choir in St. Paul's Cathedral in Birmingham. This majestic work also featured orchestra, as did others on "Kings of Metal." Two tours were required to do justice to this landmark recording. Fans waited four years for the band's next offering. During this period, Manowar built their own studio in New York; it was christened Haus Wanfried after composer Richard Wagner's house. From there unfolded the band's seventh album, "The Triumph Of Steel" which boasted over 70 minutes of pure metal might. Inspired by Homer's "The Illad," the song "Achilles: Agony and Ecstasy in Eight Parts" clocked in at 28 minutes. "The Triumph of Steel" entered the charts in Germany at No. 35 and stormed its way to No. 8- without a single or video. When the album was released in Greece, Manowar fans laid siege to the largest record store in Athens to be among the first to hear the new disc. Extra copies were rush delivered, so great was the demand for "The Triumph Of Steel." The band played to over 15,000 metal maniacs in Athens' Stadium of Peace and Friendship (in their first show there). The band continued to play to packed halls. In Hanover, Germany they established a new standard in ear splitting power by breaking their Guinness record for loudest band in the world. Two sound specialists officiated, measuring and documenting with painstaking care as Manowar shook the city, playing live at a staggering 129.5 decibels through 10 tons of amplifiers and speakers measuring 40 feet in length and 21 feet in height. This astounding event was reported worldwide. Another highlight of the "Secrets Of Steel" tour was the band's first performance in Russia, where they had been voted the live act music fans would most like to see, beating out the Beatles and Michael Jackson. Two years in the making, Manowar then released "Louder Than Hell." "We're perfectionists," explains DeMaio of the lengthy interval. "Good songs do not grow on trees and great art does not abide by some arbitrary timetable. When we're inspired, we create. And when we create, our goal is to capture the attitude and power these songs possess when we play them live in the studio. Our live energy is the defining characteristic of this band." Incorporating classical music and baroque sounds, they invented a completely new genre, "Film Score Metal", in which they blended the styles of movie soundtrack composers such as Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer and Basil Poledouris with modern melodic heavy metal and themes from the fantasy genre. In the years that followed, the founding members Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli, together with vocalist Fabio Lione, perfected this new sound with their albums: Symphony Of Enchanted Lands (1998), Dawn Of Victory (2000), Rain Of A Thousand Flames (2001), and Power Of The Dragonflame (2002). "The Dark Secret" EP, which was released on June 28, 2004, gave listeners a fantastic taste of what was yet to come: the milestone album Symphony Of Enchanted Lands II - The Dark Secret, which was released in September, 2004. Legendary actor Christopher Lee was also involved in the project, narrating part of the storyline. The value of his contribution cannot be overstated; "A dream came true for us," said Staropoli after the recordings were successfully finalized. Then a new chapter began: "What in the beginning seemed to be a nightmare, turned out to be a great advantage for the band in the end," says Rhapsody Of Fire singer Fabio Lione in regard to the band's new name. Due to trademark and copyright issues the recently band decided to change their name. However, the band has taken the name-change in stride and sees it as a fine opportunity to bring their music to the next level with a new beginning of sorts. Keyboardist/songwriter Alex Staropoli adds, "The name Rhapsody of Fire better represents the energy that has always been present in this band and its music." And now Rhapsody Of Fire is again ready to unleash that energy with the new album, Triumph Or Agony and they write more than just songs: The band's lyrics often refer to mystical lore from the medieval age and the heroic valor of those times, reminding us of the everlasting fight between good and evil. "Evil can be found everywhere," says Turilli, "but it will never win as long as there are enough good people who fight against it." The album also features an array of guest narrators and character actors, including several recruits from the London theater scene, actress Susannah York of the Superman film series and a return appearance by renowned actor Christopher Lee as the all-knowing Wizard King. Also debuting is his daughter, Christina Lee, as Princess Lothen. The roots of the band's style sink deep into the sound of legendary 80s American and European bands such as Manilla Road, Omen, Cirith Ungol, Brocas Helm, Jag Panzer and Heavy Load. The band's name was in fact taken from the lyrics to Heavy Load's song "Singing Swords" ("I loved the battleroar"). After a year of songwriting and live gigs in local clubs, by the time the band had the chance to play with BROCAS HELM in Athens, they released a promo CD including the five songs "Swordbrothers", "Almuric", "Battleroar", "Morituri Te Salutant" and "Dragonship", recorded live in studio. On the wings of the positive feedback received, the band entered again the studio to record a self financed 7" vinyl single in March 2002, containing the title track "Dragonship" and a new version of "Swordbrothers". After two highly successful shows in Athens with OMEN, the original bassplayer and vocalist left the band for personal reasons, replaced by Kostas Makrikostas (ex-Spitfire / Casus Belli / Airged L'amh) on bass and the italian singer Marco Concoreggi. With this line up, in late October 2002, Battleroar supported MANILLA ROAD during their first Greek shows in Thessaloniki and Athens. The following months were spent preparing the new material for the debut album, the same-titled BATTLEROAR, recorded in spring 2003 and released at the end of August of the same year by the Greek label Omicron Music. OMEN's legendary U.S. Metal axeman Kenny Powell contributed solo parts on the track "Megaloman". The album contained 9 tracks of heroic epic metal that helped the band get recognition worldwide among the epic underground scene. After many release parties around Greece and many radio and TV interviews, the band relied mostly on live activity, playing in Italy and Germany with JAG PANZER. The band was voted by the Greek Metal Hammer readers as one of the top 5 Greek metal bands. A live show with DOOMSWORD followed in early 2004, while also the band was invited to take part on two of the most important cult heavy metal festivals in Germany, Keep it True and Headbangers Open Air. September 2004 saw Battleroar joining forces with Black Lotus Records, October playing as a support band to EDGUY in Athens and finally January 2005 performing their last gig along with Inner Wish before starting the preproduction of the forthcoming album titled "Age of Chaos". Battleroar is supported by an ever-growing Fan Club, "Swordbrothers", which at the moment counts around 170 members. It promotes many activities under the guide of Michael Nochos, such as parties around Europe and exclusive releases for the members, like CDs and T-Shirts. October 2006 and "age of chaos" is out with great response and reviews worldwide.After the release of the CD they supported it playing a small number of live gigs, the first at the end of 2005 in Athens with the Irish friends Old Season, and greek heavy/epic metal band Wrathblade, and then a six shows european tour between january and february 2006 with Airged L'amh. Germany for two shows, then Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland and finally Italy. www.battleroar.com ************************* InnerWish Manolis Tsigos - Guitar Antonis Mazarakis - bass Mpampis Aleksandropoulos - Singer Terri Moros - drums Thimios Krikos - Guitar Despite the smog-damaged ruins of her once glorious past, Athens can be proud of its remarkable and exemplary metal scene. Amongst the members of this scene can be found Thimios Krikos (guitar) and Yiannis Papanikolaou (vocals) who in 1995, together with the young guitarist Manolis Tsigos put their admiration for their idols, Jag Panzer and Riot into deeds and formed the band INNERWISH. The line-up was completed with Pavlos Balatsoukas on drums and Alexis Levenderis on bass and in July 1997 they set up camp in the local "111 Sound Studios" and began the recordings of their debut album "Waiting For The Dawn", which was released in May the following year. The very positive resonance to the debut work in the press soon led to the first live shows which were greeted equally well by the fans. However, when singer Yiannis, drummer Pavlos and bass player Alexis left the band for musical reasons and were replaced by Panagiotis Mylonas (vocals), Antonis Mazarakis (bass) and Fotis Giannakopoulos (drums) the effect on INNERWISH was one of revitalisation. Under the title, "Realms Of The Night" the band, whose musical direction had also been revived, recorded a Split CD together with their compatriots from Reflection. For the rest of 2001 as well as during 2002 the band concentrated on songwriting for the next full-length album, taking only short breaks for live shows with Therion, Anathema, U.D.O. With two more new band members, Babis Alexandropoulos (vocals) and Terry Moros (drums) they entered "G-Studios" in Athens, to record the new album, "Silent Faces". With Limb Music Products (LMP) as label and under the competent direction of the successful producer R. D. Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Valley's Eve, David Chastain, Jack Starr's Guardians Of The Flame) "Silent Faces" was a genuine success and, in May 2004 even reached 9th place in the Japanese import charts. The release was followed by support slots with U.D.O and Helloween, Valleys Eve, Mystic Prophecy and Brainstorm which again impressively served to underline the growing status of the band. For the produktion of their next album, "Inner Strength" in 2005, the band left their homeland to travel to Kempten, Germany to the well-known The Prophecy and Music Factory Studios, the home studio of the successful producer R.D. Liapakis. And the result is simply sensational. Power Metal grenades such as 'Travellers In Time', 'Far Away' or 'Gates Of Fire' as well as melodic metal pearls like the memorable 'Lonely Lady' (Q5 cover version) prove that INNERWISH has no problem at all combining various styles of high class metal music on an intelligent and exciting basis. "Inner Strength" is certainly one of the biggest surprises of the year and is a Must for the next shopping list of every fan of power and melodic metal fan. Even Athena would agree with that ! www.innerwish.gr ***************************** Tiamat Lars Johan Edlund Andersson Thomas Wyreson Lars Anders Iwers Lars Skold Many times TIAMAT mainman Johan Edlund has been described as a chameleon, a musical genius of many faces - a man who never finds rest, always driven by new challenges that end up in the face of his audience through the music he creates. In short: An irritating artist (as far as the mainstream is concerned) who steadfastly refuses to follow the predictable logic of the music business. Now, almost 10 years after the groundbreaking album Wildhoney, which single-handedly turned TIAMAT into a brand name, it's time to delve into the myths surrounding this person. Let's start with a fact: Nothing about Prey sounds like Wildhoney. Even Edlund's vocals have acquired a stylistic variation and self-confidence that - at least in this respect -- allow for the ongoing use of the picture of a chameleon. This album continues where TIAMAT left us with Judas Christ. You may still call the style Gothic Rock, although one moniker will never be enough to do justice to the complexity you find on any TIAMAT album: not on Judas Christ, nor on its predecessor Skeleton Skeletron, and not on Prey. Still, this line of ancestors should make one thing perfectly clear: Prey is not "irritating" or stepping on anybody's toes. It has been many years since Johan Edlund went out into the jungle of potentially great music to reflect his personality. He has found his songs, he's cultivating them, pushing them towards perfection. Prey takes us onto an adventurous ride into his garden of sounds - showing the many faces of his personality in fascinating detail. TIAMAT are no longer questioning the musical process; they have spent the last few years in refining the art of turning emotions, moods and thoughts into songs. By doing this, they always present another mosaic of the inner life of Johan Edlund. Prey is displaying the rifts, the ambivalence inside this man stronger than all predecessors. Edlund himself describes the album as most likely his most personal one. Always melodic, filigree when the tender sides of the romantic Edlund vibrate, then heavy and majestic when his eternal broodings about good and evil are articulating themselves in songs like "Cain", the first single which was released before the album. Prey is a straight dance into the abyss as well as manifestation of pure sensuality, both warm and welcoming. And, most importantly, despite all its introspective moments never an unwieldy, egocentric monster of an album, but an aesthetical, brilliantly structured masterpiece full of wonderful songs. Johan searches for the mastery of the true composer, the one that transcribes his life into music without thus describing a life of transcriptions -- and on Prey he admirably succeeds. And thus he is anything but a chameleon, someone who is blending in with his environment, but an artist who is revealing more about himself to his audience at large than other people ever will to their immediate surroundings. Many elements on Prey seem to contradict themselves, but that's what makes the album such a vivid experience: There are any grand biblical references throughout the album, but the one he searched authorisation for is "The Pentagram", based on a poem by renowned Satanist Aleister Crowley, and approved by the Ordo Templi Orientes. The delicate "Carry Your Cross And I'll Carry Mine" sounds seducing with its almost erotic, suggestive melody, but talks about the spirit of pure egoism. Musically the whole CD exudes a positive vibe, but especially towards the end the lyrics offer nothing but growing darkness. Prey doesn't shock you, Prey is fascinating through the richness of its musical ways of expression, the manifold emotions it carries, the intimate closeness it allows with one of the most interesting artists ever to come out of the metal-underground. So in the end there is only one expression I want to keep from the introductory description: Johan Edlund is a musical genius. (Original by Robert M?ller, August 2003, translated into English) www.churchoftiamat.com ***************************** Epica Simone Simons - singer Mark Jansen - guitar Ad Sluijter - guitar Jeroen Simons - drums Yves "Enuresor" Huts - bass Continuing in a by now popular tradition of female fronted Gothic Metal bands, Epica was conceived in Limburg, Holland by former AFTER FOREVER guitarist Mark Jansen. Second guitarist Ad Sluijter was previously a member of Cassiopeia and also has After Forever connections, as does keyboard player Coen Janssen and drummer Jeroen Simons. Bassist Yves Huts (a.k.a. 'Enuresor') has a tradition with Axamenta. Epica is led by the mezzo-soprano classically trained Opera singer Simone Simons. For a short period this new formation went by the title Sahara Dust. However, with the enrolment of Simone Simon, and Jeroen Simons the group adopted the Epica banner, in homage to Kamelot. The debut Sascha Paeth produced album 'The Phantom Agony', offering Gothic Metal imbued with choral vocals from Simon and Death grunts from Jansen, gave the band immediate success by landing straight in the Dutch national charts. Extensive touring throughout Europe in April and May of 2004 would be backed by the single release 'Cry For The Moon'. Subsequent festival dates saw Epica performing at the Leipzig 'Wave Gotik Treffen' event, 'Graspop' in Belgium and the Turkish 'Rock The Nations' meeting in Istanbul. The band put in an appearance at the Nightwish headlined 'Metal Female Voices Fest II' event held in Brussels during November. New album recordings completed in late 2004 would see the guest inclusion of Kamelot frontman Roy Khan, duetting on the track 'Trois Vierges', written specifically for the movie soundtrack 'Joyride'. Returning the favour, Simone Simons appeared as a cameo in the Kamelot promotional video for 'The Haunting'. Epica parted ways with drummer Jeroen Simons in October. In November Finnish weekly celebrity gossip magazine Katso reported that NIGHTWISH leader Tuomas Holopainen and group's manager Ewo Rytk?nen had been in contact with Simone Simons with a view toward replacing ex-singer Tarja Turunen. Nevertheless, Epica commenced work on fresh album recordings, utilising God Dethroned and Project Sic's, Ari?n van Weesenbeek for drum parts. The band had the tracks 'Mother Of Light' and 'Consign To Oblivion' included on the 'ProgPower USA VIII' DVD compilation in 2007. A year later after some various line up changes Inactive Messiah entered the studio again for their third studio album (2nd under "Inactive Messiah" name). The recordings took place at the Devilworx studios (Athens/Greece) and Finnvox Studios (Helsinki/Finland). The new material sound more melodic, aggressive and dark while the Hellenic national ERT choir and the Symphonic Orchestra of Slovakia (80 musicians) participate. The choir and Orchestra parts arranged by Chris A. (Chaostar/Septic Flesh/The Devilworx). The album was mixed by Mikko Karmila and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios (Helsinki/Finland). In this new album Inactive Messiah invited some guest musicians to record some parts. JP Lepp?luoto (Charon/ex-Poisonblack) sings in the song "Be My Drug" which is also the name of the album, Emppu Vuorinen (Nightwish) has recorded the guitar solo part of the cover song "Beat It" from Michael Jackson and Arto Tuunela (Major Label) do some Finnish vocals on song "Before The End". Inactive Messiah are glad that signed a deal with Holy Records, the release of their new album entitled "bE mY dRug" scheduled for December 2006. After the deal Katerina decided to leave the band for personal reasons and now Akiss is the guy behind the drumkit. Darkface-Guitar/singer Agis-bass Christos-Guitar Aleksandros-drums W.E.B. were found in 2002, Athens, Greece. The band plays music deeply influenced by the "dark side" of metal. It can be defined as atmospheric metal mixed with a variety of Goth and Black metal along with some heavy riffs, sensitive melodies and some stroke of classical music. All these dressed up with sorrowful and depressive erotic lyrics. W.E.B. have given numerous live performances in Greece in several cities including Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Heraklion of Crete and Megara. The band has also made two shows outside the Greek borders in Sofia Bulgaria and in Istanbul Turkey. Amongst these gigs they have shared the stage with Rotting Christ, Orphaned Land and To/Die/For. W.E.B. are also known for the show they give onstage with nude female dancers and fireworks. All live performances so far have received very positive comments by the press and the people. The band had also the chance to have really important airplay times both on tv and radio as Hakos Pervanidis has hosted three interviews of the band on his show TV-WAR on MAD TV channel until now and their video clip for the song Cockroach has been broadcasted several times by the same show. In August 2005 they finished the mix and the result he was incredible. The debut album of E.S will come out very soon in the beginnings of 2007. There were not few the times that the press, either printed, or electronic, had to do with the name...Emerald Sun... With reviews in many sites, e-zines and magazines over Europe E.S are recognized as one of the best new coming power metal groups. They have extracted appreciable reviews and it is said that Jimmy Santrazami has one of the best vocals of its kind and it is said that it reminds enough of the voice of the enormous M.Kiske in the golden times of the "Keepers" . Pre-release reviews, have brought the album in leading place, which was characterized as if it has been written in order to be named "Keeper" and according to many reviews from e-zines the album constitutes turning-point in the Greek power metal scene and as it was written in Metal Invader....it..s a "masterpiece". Also from many live shows in Thessaloniki the metal heads have a lot to remember of Emerald Sun. Also there were many times that E.S were unlucky because of live cancellation as those of Kamelot-Kotipelto, Nightfall, and Primal Fear - Royal Hunt. As for the present E.S were voted as the best newcomer band for 2005 in the Mainhill Awards that are presented every year by Andy Mikheev. Also, E.S registered an other success in their background, winning the 2nd (second) place, representing Greece, on the 3rd Heavy Metal Eurovision (on-line song contest) between 40 other countries. MARCH METAL DAY 2007 — 04/04/2007
It took a bit longer but MARCH METAL DAY FESTIVAL (MMD) is finally going to land at the old airport hanger (FENCING ARENA-Indoor) on April 4th, 2007. The Allday Spring Festival which was misssing from the Greek Music scene, will host two stages with over 12 bands. MMD will open doors at 12:00 and will end after 24:00 of the same day. Headliners in this event are MANOWAR as well as TIAMAT and EPICA. At the MMD will be alot of music and "action" - more info soon on the official website - www.marchmetalday.gr. Κατά τη διάρκεια της καριέρας της η μπάντα επαναδιατύπωσε την έννοια «heavy metal» συνδυάζοντας ιδιαίτερη μουσικότητα και σύνθεση. Ο αταλάντευτος χαρακτήρας των μελών του γκρουπ έδωσε στους Manowar τη δυνατότητα να ξεπεράσουν φαινομενικά αξεπέραστες καταστάσεις και να εμπνεύσουν ανά τα χρόνια της ύπαρξής τους, κάτι που συνεχίζεται με κάθε νέα κυκλοφορία τους. Μένοντας πιστοί στην κληρονομιά τους, οι Manowar δεν χρησιμοποίησαν ποτέ "παραδοσιακές' μεθόδους, ούτε συμβιβάστηκαν στη παραγωγή του ήχου-trademark που τους διακρίνει. Από την αρχή, όταν αποτέλεσαν την αντίθεση στο hard rock με την ιδιαίτερη προσέγγισή τους προς αυτό, αλλά και στη συνέχεια, όταν πέρασαν από τις αλλαγές στα τέλη των 80ς, οι Manowar απλώς συνέχιζαν στον προδιαγεγραμμένο δρόμο! Μετά από σπουδαίες κυκλοφορίες στα 90ς και κατά τα τελευταία χρόνια, τα μέλη της μπάντας δούλευαν νυχθημερόν για τη κατασκευή του στούντιό τους (που βρίσκεται στο σπίτι του μπασίστα, Joey DeMaio) το οποίο ονομάστηκε όπως έπρεπε: «Hell». Μόλις το πλήρως ψηφιακό στούντιο συγχρονίστηκε με το World Clock η μπάντα "πέταγε': ένα άλμπουμ (το "Warriors Of The World") και αναρίθμητες ηχογραφήσεις και ντέμο έχουν βγει από το νέο «αρχηγείο» σιγουρεύοντας το γεγονός ότι οι Manowar θα παραμείνουν οι "Βασιλιάδες Του Μέταλ'! Στο March Metal Day οι Manowar έρχονται με το album, "Gods of war", στις αποσκευές τους και με τη πίστη ότι αποτελούν τους τιμητές του heavy metal! Ακολουθεί το άλμπουμ "Hail To England', η πρώτη περιοδεία, το άλμπουμ "Sign Of The Hammer' και η ανακήρυξη της μπάντας από το βιβλίο Guinness ως ή πιο δυνατή στο κόσμο'! Το αριστουργηματικό studio album τους, "Symphony Of Enchanted Lands II - The Dark Secret" πήρε σπουδαίες κριτικές και φιλοξένησε και τον Christopher Lee ενώ το τρίτο τους βήμα, "Dawn Of Victory", τους εκτόξευσε σε επίπεδα Dream Theater και Savatage και τους βρήκε με πολύ περισσότερη επιθετικότητα την ίδια στιγμή που οι fans τους ακολουθούσαν σε κάθε τους βήμα με πίστη. Οι ρίζες της φθάνουν στις επικές μπάντες των 80ς, όπως οι Heavy Load από στίχο των οποίων πάρθηκε και το όνομα του γκρουπ. Τα πρώτα χρόνια τους τα πέρασαν δομώντας τον ήχο τους είτε επί σκηνής είτε στο στούντιο όπου και έγραψαν τα πρώτα demo και απέκτησαν το σημερινό Line up με τον Ιταλό Marco στη φωνή. Η μπάντα άρχισε να δημιουργείται και να παίρνει τη μελωδική metal πορεία της τα επόμενα χρόνια με τη προσθήκη του κιθαρίστα Μανώλη Τσίγκου και οι InnerWish ήταν πραγματικότητα. Ο Παύλος Μπαλατσούκας στα τύμπανα και ο Αλέξης Λεβεντέρης στο μπάσο απετέλεσαν τη πρώτη μορφή των InnerWish και με αυτό το line up κυκλοφόρησε το 1998 το ντεμπούτο, "Waiting For The Dawn". Τύπος και κοινό ύμνησε το άλμπουμ αλλά η συνέχεια έφερε αλλαγές στο Line up. Μεταξύ τους βρίσκουμε τον Παναγιώτη Μυολονά στη φωνή. Το διάστημα που ακολούθησε οι InnerWish συγκεντρώθηκαν στη σύνθεση νέων τραγουδιών και σε επιλεγμένα Live που τους έφεραν στην ίδια σκηνή με ονόματα όπως οι Helloween, Brainstorm, U.D.O, Anathema Κ.ά. Με νέα φωνή, αυτή του Μπάμπη Αλεξανδρόπουλου και νέο drummer τον Τέρρυ Μόρο, οι InnerWish μπήκαν στο studio και ηχογράφησαν το νέο άλμπουμ, "Silent Faces". Αρχικά, το συγκρότημα έπαιζε απλό Death Metal με το όνομα Treblinka. Όταν χώρισαν το 1989, άφησαν τον τραγουδιστή και κιθαρίστα Johan Edlund ως μόνο μέλος της μπάντας ,ο οποίος άλλαξε στη συνέχεια το όνομα σε Tiamat. Μετά από το Sumerian Cry (που ήταν το πρώτο άλμπουμ των Tiamat, αλλά ηχογραφήθηκε υπό το όνομα Treblinka), η ηγεσία του Edlund τροποποίησε τον ήχο με ατμοσφαιρικά στοιχεία και τα φωνητικά που θα τους κατηγοριοποιούσαν (μαζί με τους Samael και τους Rotting Christ) ως έναν από τους εκκινητές του dark metal και του Symphonic Black Metal. To Wildhoney του 1994, έτυχε μαζικής αποδοχής από τους κριτικούς, συνδύαζε άγρια φωνητικά, αργά riffs κιθάρας και τους ήχους synthesizer κάνοντας τους Tiamat να ηχούν διαφορετικοί από άλλες Symphonic Black Metal μπάντες εκείνης της περιόδου. Ένα σχεδόν συνεχές σαραντάλεπτο κομμάτι, το Wildhoney θεωρήθηκε μια κυκλοφορία ορόσημο στον πρωτοπαρουσίασε πολλές από τις τάσεις που θα επαναλαμβάνονταν σε αυτό το μουσικό κίνημα, καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια της επόμενης δεκαετίας.Όλα τα άλμπουμ που θα ακολουθούσαν θα επισφράγιζαν τη μπάντα σε μία πιο μελωδική κατεύθυνση, αρκετά διαφορετική και προτωποριακή από την ακραία μουσική που έκαναν στις προηγούμενες κυκλοφορίες! O δεύτερος κιθαρίστας Ad Sluijter ήταν προηγουμένως μέλος των Cassiopeia και των Αfter Forever, όπως και ο πληκτράς Coen Janssen και ο drummer Jeroen Simons, ενώ ο μπασιστας Yves "Enuresor" Huts έχει διατελέσει μέλος των Axamenta. Οι Epica στα φωνητικά εκπροσωπούνται από την mezzo-soprano Simone Simons. Για μια μικρή χρονική περίοδο αυτό το νέο σχήμα ονομαζόνταν Sahara Dust. Εντούτοις, με την προσθήκη των Simone Simons και Jeroen Simons η μπάντα υιοθέτησε το όνομα Epica, προς τιμήν των Kamelot. Η έναρξη της συνεργασίας τους με τον Sascha Paeth στη θέση του παραγωγού ήρθε με το άλμπουμ "The Phantom Agony", προσφέροντας gothic metal που εμποτισμένο με τα χορωδιακά φωνητικά της Simone και τα γρυλίσματα του Jansen, έδωσαν στη μπάντα άμεση επιτυχία με το να τους εκτιναξει κατ' ευθείαν στα ολλανδικά charts. Εκτενής περιοδεία σε όλη την Ευρώπη τον Απρίλιο και Μάιο του 2004 θα υποστηριζόταν από το single 'Cry For The Moon'. Εμφανίστηκαν σε φεστιβάλ όπως τα 'Wave Gotik Treffen' στη Λειψία, το "Graspop" στο Βέλγιο και το 'Rock The Nations' στην Κωνσταντινούπολη. Η μπάντα συμμετείχε, μαζί με τους Nightwish, στο "'Metal Female Voices Fest II " που διοργανώθηκε στις Βρυξέλλες κατά τη διάρκεια του Νοεμβρίου. Το νέο άλμπουμ ολοκληρώνεται στα τέλη του 2004 με φιλοξενούμένο τον frontman των Kamelot Roy Khan, στο κομμάτι "Trois Vierges", γραμμένο συγκεκριμένα για το soundtrack της ταινίας "Joyride". Στο φινλανδικό εβδομαδιαίο περιοδικό Katso αναφέρεται ότι ο ηγέτης των Nightwish Tuomas Holopainen και ο manager Ewo Rytkφnen ήρθαν σε επαφή με την Simone Simons για να αντικαταστήσει την πρώην-τραγουδίστρια Tarja Turunen. Παρ' όλα αυτά, οι Epica άρχισαν τις ηχογραφήσεις του νέου τους άλμπουμ, χρησιμοποιόντας τον ντράμερ των God Dethroned, Ari?n van Weesenbeek. Το DVD "ProgPower USA VIII" περιελάμβανε τα "Mother Of Light' και 'Consign To Oblivion'. Οι George David & Gang ξεκίνησαν τον Απρίλιο του 2002 και από τότε έχουν πραγματοποιήσει πάνω από 300 ζωντανές εμφανίσεις, κάποιες εκ των οποίων συγκέντρωσαν πάνω από 60.000 άτομα! Αυτή την στιγμή οι ετοιμάζουν το ντεμπούτο τους δίσκο, τον οποίο θα παρουσιάσουν για πρώτη φορά ζωντανά στο MMD ***************************** Inactive Messiah Χρήστος-φωνή Θάνος-κιθάρα Λευτέρης-μπάσο Σωτήρης-κιθάρα ¶κης-drums Οι Inactive Messiah δημιουργήθηκαν το 2001 από τον Λευτέρη (μπάσο),την Κατερίνα (τύμπανα) και τον Χρήστο(πλήκτρα). Το όνομα της μπάντας εκείνη την περίοδο ήταν "Womb Of Maggots' και η πρώτη τους προσπάθεια να προσεγγίσουν τους metal fans ήταν ένα demo cd με τον ομώνυμο τίτλο. Ένα χρόνο αργότερα, ο Δημήτρης (κιθάρα) και ο Mineiro (φωνή) μπήκαν στην μπάντα, η οποία εκείνο τον καιρό κυκλοφόρησε τον πρώτο δίσκο "Life Odium', περιόδευσε στα Βαλκάνια και επιπλέον έκανε κάποιες συναυλίες με τους Rotting Christ, Ancient, Septic Flesh, DeathSS, ως support act.Όταν, αργότερα, ο Θάνος (κιθάρα) μπήκε στην μπάντα, αποφασίστηκε να γίνει και η αλλαγή του ονόματος αυτής από "Womb Of Maggots' σε "Inactive Messiah', κάτω από το οποίο η μπάντα, έχοντας πλέον εξασφαλίσει ένα συμβόλαιο με την Black Lotus Records, κυκλοφορεί τον δεύτερο δίσκο με τον τίτλο"Inactive Messiah' .Μετά από κάποιους μήνες, υπήρξαν κάποιες αλλαγές και πάλι στο line up της μπάντας καθώς ο Δημήτρης και ο Mineiro έφυγαν από την μπάντα, ο Χρήστος ανέλαβε πλέον τα φωνητικά και ο Σωτήρης (κιθάρα) ήταν το νέο μέλος.Τον Δεκέμβριο του 2005, οι Inactive Messiah ξεκίνησαν τις ηχογραφήσεις για τον τρίτο τους δίσκο "Be my drug', οι οποίες έγιναν στα Devilworx studios στην Ελλάδα και στα φιλανδικά Finnvox Studios . Οι νέες τους συνθέσεις γίνονται πλέον πιο μελωδικές, επιθετικές και σκοτεινές καθώς η χορωδία της ΕΡΤ και η συμφωνική ορχήστρα της Σλοβακίας που συμμετέχουν ,υπό το arrangement του Χρήστου Αντωνίου (Chaostar/Septic Flesh/The Devilworx), σε αυτές δίνουν ένα τελείως καινούριο ύφος. Στο "Be my drug' την μίξη έχει κάνει ο Mikko Karmila και το mastering ο Mika Jussila στα Finnvox Studios καθώς και σαν guest musicians συμμετέχουν ο JP Lepp?luoto (Charon/ex-Poisonblack) που κάνει φωνητικά στο κομμάτι με τον τίτλο "Be My Drug", ο Emppu Vuorinen (Nightwish) ο οποίος έχει ηχογραφήσει σόλο κιθάρα στην διασκευή "Beat It", του Michael Jackson και ο Arto Tuunela (Major Label) όπου ηχογράφησε φωνητικά στα φιλανδικά για το κομμάτι ?Before The End?. Οι Inactive Messiah υπέγραψαν συμβόλαιο με την Holy Records,από όπου και κυκλοφόρησε το "Be My Drug",τον Δεκέμβριο του 2006, το οποίο απέσπασε κορυφαίες κριτικές . Darkface-κιθάρα/φωνή ¶γης-μπάσο Χρήστος-κιθάρα Αλέξανδρος-drums Οι W.E.B. ιδρύθηκαν στην Αθήνα το 2002. Η μουσική της μπάντας αυτής είναι βαθιά επηρεασμένη από τη «σκοτεινή» πλευρά του metal. Θα μπορούσε κανείς να την ορίσει ως ατμοσφαιρικό metal με αρκετά στοιχεία από gothic και black metal με αρκετά heavy περάσματα, ευαίσθητες μελωδίες και μερικές πινελιές κλασσικής μουσικής και όλα αυτά ντυμένα με θλιβερούς, ρομαντικούς στίχους.Οι W.E.B. έχουν δώσει αρκετές συναυλίες στην Ελλάδα σε πόλεις όπως η Αθήνα, η Θεσσαλονίκη, η Πάτρα, το Ηράκλειο Κρήτης και τα Μέγαρα. Έχουν επίσης πραγματοποιήσει και δυο πολύ σημαντικές εμφανίσεις στο εξωτερικό στη Σόφια της Βουλγαρίας και στην Κωνσταντινούπολη της Τουρκίας. Μέσα από τα live αυτά είχαν την ευκαιρία να μοιραστούν τη σκηνή με τους Rotting Christ, τους Orphaned Land,τους Lake of tears και τους To/Die/For. Η μπάντα είναι επίσης γνωστή για το show που προσφέρει επί σκηνής με ημίγυμνες χορεύτριες και πυροτεχνήματα. Οι ζωντανές τους εμφανίσεις ως τώρα έχουν λάβει πολύ καλές κριτικές από τον μουσικό τύπο και τον κόσμο. Το υλικό των W.E.B. έχει γνωστοποιηθεί στο κοινό επίσης μέσα από κάποιες συλλογές στις οποίες έχουν συμπεριληφθεί ξεκινώντας από το "Greece Attacks - The Next Assault" από την Sound & Vision Records τον Οκτώβριο του 2004, το "Enter the Hellenic Metal Rebellion" από το Greek Rebels webzine το Νοέμβριο του 2005, το "Archangel II" από το Bloodcult fanzine τον Ιανουάριο του 2006 και επίσης στο split-EP με τους Sad Wings από την Music Forward και το περιοδικό Rock On τον Ιούλιο του 2004. Το 2007 και μόλις πριν λίγες ημέρες κυκλοφόρησε το τρίτο τους άλμπουμ "Pythagorized" με συμμετοχές των Aphazel (Ancient), Jan (Agathocles), Tristessa (Astarte), Elisabeth (En-garde), Nick (Lloth, Insected) και Nick (Deviser). Τον Φεβρουάριο επίσης κυκλοφορεί και η πρώτη τους επίσημη παρουσία σε 10" βινύλιο, με τον τίτλο "Dream Of Fire". Όμως όλα αυτά δεν είναι τίποτα μπροστά στην συναυλιακή εμπειρία που διαθέτουν οι Crossover?από το 1999 έως σήμερα έχουν «οργώσει» στην κυριολεξία την Ελλάδα πολλές φορές, αφού αριθμούν πάνω από 70 επίσημες εμφανίσεις. Έχουν βρεθεί στη ίδια σκηνή με καλλιτέχνες όπως τους Σουηδούς Dark Funeral,τους Marduk (3 φορές), τους Νορβηγούς Ancient (2 φορές), τους Rotting Christ (3 φορές), τους Septic Flesh, τους Nightfall, τους Homo Iratus (2 φορές), τους Deviser (2 φορές), τους Obsecration, τους Horrified, τους Naer Mataron, ενώ σε λίγες ημέρες θα εμφανιστούν μαζί με τους Πολωνούς Behemoth. Έχουν παίξει επίσης σε Τουρκία και Κύπρο ως Headliners. Ήρθε η ώρα τους λοιπόν να ξαναβάλουν φωτιά τον Νότο ολόκληρο και θα το αποδείξουν στο «σανίδι» εκείνη την ημέρα! Οι συνθέσεις τους είναι αργόσυρτες και θωρυβώδεις. Έχουν ηχογραφήσει 11 από αυτές σε δύο διαφορετικά studio sessions τα οποία και κυκλοφόρησαν σε ένα promo (Obscene/chapters of despair).Στο promo cd έκαναν οι ίδιοι την παραγωγή, το artwork και τα video.Οι συναυλίες τους είναι πολύ συχνές και πάντα συνοδευόμενες απο video projections και performance act.Αυτή τη στιγμή οι Universe217 έχουν έτοιμη καινουργία δισκογραφική δουλεία,που θα κυκλοφορήσει επίσημα μέσα στο Μάρτιο! www.universe217.com ***************************** Emerald Sun Teo Savage-κιθάρα Fotis "Sheriff' Toumanides-μπάσο Jim Tsakirides-πλήκτρα B-Wicked-Drums Οι E.S σχηματίστηκαν επίσημα από τον Johnnie Athanasiadis (Guitars) το 2003. Με τα κατά καιρούς line-up βγήκαν 2 Demos, το "Sword of Light" 2003 και το "High in the sky" το 2004. Έτσι οι E.S διαγράφουν την πορεία τους στην metal μουσική σκηνή της χώρας λαμβάνοντας ουκ ολίγα κολακευτικά σχόλια από περιοδικά του χώρου, αλλά και με συνεντεύξεις και παρουσιάσεις σε metal εκπομπές σε ραδιόφωνο και τηλεόραση! Μετά από αρκετές αλλαγές των μελών επιτέλους βρέθηκε το τελικό line up που δεν είναι μόνο μέλη αλλά έγιναν και πολύ καλοί φίλοι!! Παραλληλα εγιναν και πολλα live σε ολη τη χωρα με αρκετα γνωστα groups οπως Omen, Grim Reaper, κ.α και εμφανισεις σε festival οπως "Evil Existance", "Rockemon", "Rock Before Xmas", "Metal Up Your Ass", "Coca Cola Fest" κ.α. Επιπλέον, τους δοθηκε η ευκαιρια να παιξουv στο γνωστο σε ολους "Battle of the Bands" τον Μαϊο του 2004. Στο διαγωνισμό αυτό συμμετείχαν πάνω από 30 γκρουπ από όλη την Ελλάδα και όλα τα στυλ της μουσικής. Οι E.S "υπέγραψαν" συμβόλαιο πριν καν τελειώσει ο διαγωνισμός και φυσικά όταν τελείωσε είχαν κερδίσει την 1η θέση! Λίγο αργότερα, όταν τελείωσαν την σύνθεση των κομματιών, τον Ιανουάριο του 2005 οι E.S μπαίνουν στα Nemesis Recording Studio στην Καβάλα, με παραγωγό τον Τάσο Καραπαπαζογλου (Nemesis, Elwing) για να ηχογραφήσουν τον πρώτο τους δίσκο. Δεν ήταν λίγες οι φορές που ο τύπος, είτε αυτός ήταν έντυπος, είτε ηλεκτρονικός, έχει ασχοληθεί με το όνομα Emerald Sun. Με reviews σε πολλά sites, e-zines και περιοδικά ανά την Ευρώπη οι E.S αναγνωρίζονται σαν από τα καλύτερα power metal groups.Pre-release κριτικές του album, το έχουν φέρει σε κορυφαία θέση, το οποίο χαρακτηρίστηκε σαν να έχει γραφτεί για να ονομαστεί "Keeper" και σύμφωνα με πολλά reviews από e-zines το "The Story Begins" αποτελεί σταθμό στην ελληνική power metal σκηνή και όπως χαρακτηρίστηκα γράφτηκε στο Metal Invader...."masterpiece". Οι Εmerald Sun ακολουθούν την πορεία τους και συνεχίζουν να προσφέρουν στο κόσμο την μουσική που τόσο αγαπάνε. Προς το παρόν, οι Ε.S καταχώρησαν άλλη μια επιτυχία στο ιστορικό τους καταλαμβάνοντας την 2η (δεύτερη) θέση εκπροσωπώντας την Ελλάδα στη 3η Heavy Metal Eurovision (on-line contest) ανάμεσα από 40 χώρες. EPICA - LIVE IN GREECE
Το συγκρότημα που έκλεψε τις καρδιές μας απο την πρώτη τους εμφάνιση στην χώρα μας, στα πλαίσια του MMD, επιστρέφουν δυναμικά με νέο CD "The Divine Conspiracy" που μόλις κυκλοφόρησε και με δύο εμφανίσεις σε Αθήνα και Θεσσαλονίκη.
