ORQUESTA BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB -- MUSICIANS' SHORT BIOGS Cachaνto Lopez (Double Bass) The "heartbeat of the Buena Vista Social Club™', Cuban bass player Orlando 'Cachaνto' Lσpez is the only musician who has played on every track on every album in the World Circuit Buena Vista Social Club™ series. Cachaνto comes from one of Cuba's foremost musical dynasties, including his father, Orestes Lσpez and uncle, Israel 'Cachao' Lσpez, two of Cuba's greatest musicians. Cachaνto has an uncanny rapport with his fellow musicians – accompanying Ibrahim Ferrer and Rubιn Gonzαlez on their world tours, playing alongside Omara Portuondo, and on his own groundbreaking debut album on World Circuit “Cachaνto”, which won a BBC Radio 3 Award for Word Music in 2002. Manuel "Guajiro' Mirabal (Trumpet) Guajiro has been a key figure in the Cuban music scene for over 50 years and has played with just about every Cuban star you could care to mention. During World Circuit's now legendary recording blitz in Havana in 1996, Guajiro featured on all three of these seminal albums: Afro-Cuban All Stars “A Toda Cuba Le Gusta”, “Buena Vista Social Club™”, and “Introducing Rubιn Gonzαlez”. Having been an integral part of many albums in the Buena Vista series and a key member of Ibrahim Ferrer's touring band, Guajiro released his debut solo album, the Latin Grammy nominated “Buena Vista Social Club™ Presents Manuel Guajiro Mirabal” in 2004. Jesϊs "Aguaje' Ramos (MD, Trombone, Vocals) He was born in 1951 in Pinar del Rio where he began his musical studies in the National School of Arts. He started playing the trombone in local groups until 1979 when he moved to Havana and began playing with the great female quartet Los D'Aida. That same year he took part in the “Estrellas de Areito” recordings. Aguaje has played on the World Circuit recordings of the Buena Vista Social Club™ and Afro-Cuban All Stars, and the solo albums of Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubιn Gonzαlez and Omara Portuondo. He was Rubιn Gonzαlez's musical director and he has been touring extensively since 1997 with the various Buena Vista Social Club™ projects. Manuel Galbαn (Guitar and Organ) Manuel Galbαn, electric guitarist, pianist, organist and arranger, is an institution in Cuban music. For many years, he was the musical director of the seminal Cuban doo-wop group Los Zafiros. With Galbαn leading, the band created a distinctly Cuban sound, an eclectic mix of doo-wop, ballads and boleros, soul and samba, tumbas and twists. In 1998, Nick Gold tracked down Galbαn to play guitar on Ibrahim Ferrer's debut album. Galbαn's rapport with Ry Cooder is striking. The duo's album “Mambo Sinuendo” won a Grammy in February 2004. He also contributed his unique guitar sound to Cachaνto Lσpez's groundbreaking debut “Cachaνto” and Ibrahim Ferrer's Grammy winning “Buenos Hermanos”. Barbarito Torres (Laϊd) Barbarito's professional career started in 1970 with Serenata Yumunina, a group led by Higinio Mullens. When graduated he travelled with Siembra Cultural, later renamed Grupo Yarabi. Eventually he settled in Havana and became a permanent member of Orquesta Cubana de Cuerdas. Later he joined Celina Gonzalez and her Grupo Campoalegre as their musical director; at the same time, he was featured with Grupo Manguare, recording and touring with both groups. Barbarito is well known for his contribution with the Afro Cuban All Stars and the Buena Vista Social Club™. He stands out for his participation on Wim Wender's film for his incredible way of playing such instrument. Both ensembles won a number of awards, including a Grammy for the Buena Vista Social Club album in 1998. Since Buena Vista project Barbarito toured around the world with his group. In 1999 his first solo album “Havana Cafι” is released and in 2003 “Barbarito Torres”. Amadito Valdιs (timbales) Essentially “timbalero”, and drummer, in deed Amadito worked in several important Cuban orchestras, though his trace for almost 30 years set the rhythm for the quartet “Las D'Aida”. Beginning with 1997 he takes part of what up to date is known as the project Buena Vista Social Club™, also in particular of the Afro Cuban All Stars orchestra and the group of the well known piano player Rubιn Gonzalez. Together with other stars of this international popular phenomenon he has acted in the most expensive show business plazas of the planet until now a days and since 2002, after the throwing in the world market of “Bajando Gervasio” (nominate to Grammy 2003), first record that leads as a soloist, he is also developing his artistic project, that conforms, besides recordings and presentations, a book, a sui generis clinic, a plastic arts exposition and other interesting musical actions.

Presents Manuel Guajiro Mirabal in 2004. Jesus 'Aguaje' Ramos (Trombone) He was born in 1951 in Pinar del Rio where he began his musical studies in the National School of Arts. He started playing the trombone in local groups until 1979 when he moved to Havana and began playing with the great female quartet Los D'Aida. That same year he took part in the "Estrellas de Areito" recordings. Aguaje has played on the World Circuit recordings of the Buena Vista Social Club and Afro-Cuban All Stars, and the solo albums of Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzalez and Omara Portuondo. He was Ruben Gonzalez's musical director and he has been touring extensively since 1997 with the various Buena Vista Social Club projects. Aguaje will release his own solo album for World Circuit in 2006. Manuel Galban (Guitar and Organ) Manuel Galban, electric guitarist, pianist, organist and arranger, is an institution in Cuban music. For many years, he was the musical director of the seminal Cuban doo-wop group Los Zafiros. With Galban leading, the band created a distinctly Cuban sound, an eclectic mix of doo-wop, ballads and boleros, soul and samba, tumbas and twists. In 1998, Nick Gold tracked down Galban to play guitar on Ibrahim Ferrer's debut album. Galban's rapport with Ry Cooder is striking. The duo's recent album 'Mambo Sinuendo' won a Grammy in February 2004. He also contributed his unique guitar sound to Cachaito Lopez's groundbreaking debut 'Cachaito' and Ibrahim Ferrer's Grammy winning 'Buenos Hermanos'.

Barbarito Torres (Laud) Η επαγγελματική πορεία του Barbarito Torres ξεκίνησε το 1970 με τους Serenata Yumumina, ενα συγκρότημα του Higinio Mullens. Οταν αποφοίτησε ταξίδεψε με τους Siembra Cultural, που αργότερα ονομαστηκαν Grupo Yarabi. Τελικά αποφάσισε να μείνει στην Αβάνα και έγινε μόνιμο μέλος της Orquesta Cubana de Cuerdas. Αργότερα συνεργάστηκε με την Celina Gonzalez και το συγκρότημα της Grupo Campoalegre ως διευθυντής ορχήστρας και την ίδια στιγμή έπαιζε με τους Grupo Manguare. Δισκογραφούσε και περιόδευε ταυτόχρονα και με τα δύο συγκροτήματα. Ο Barbarito είναι ευρύτερα γνωστό οτι συνέβαλε στους Afro Cuban All Stars και στους Buena Vista Social Club. Ξεχωρίζει για το παίξιμο του στο φίλμ του Wim Wender's. Και τα δύο συγκροτήματα κέρδισαν αρκετά βραβεία , ανάμεσα σε αυτά και ένα Grammy για το 1998 άλμπουμ των Buena Vista Social Club. Μετά το project με τους Buena Vista ο Barbarito περιόδευσε με το συγκρότημα του σε όλο τον κόσμο. Το 1999 έβγαλε το πρώτο προσωπικό άλμπουμ του "Havana Cafe" και το 2003 "Barbarito Torres". Amadito Valdes (timbales) Βασικά "timbalero" και ντράμερ, πραγματικά ο Amadito συνεργάστηκε με πολλές σημαντικές Κουβανέζικες Ορχήστρες, αν και τα βήματα του μέσα απο την πάνω απο 30 χρόνια καριέρα του, έδωσε το ρυθμό στο κουαρτέτο "Las D'Aida". Στις αρχές του 1997 παίρνει μέρος στο project που είανι γνωστό ως σήμερα ως Buena Vista Social Club, καθώς επίσης και στην Ορχήστρα Afro Cuban All Stars και στο συγκρότημα του πολύ γνωστού Ruben Gonzalez. Μαζί με άλλους stars αυτού του διάσημου φαινόμενου έχει παίξει στις πιο εκπληκτικές αίθουσες σε όλο τον κόσμο και ιδιαίτερα μετά το 2002, που κυκλοφόρησε το "Bajando Gervasio" (προτάθηκε για Grammy το 2003), στο πρώτο αλμπούμ που πρωταγωνιστεί ως σολίστ.

Δημιουργήθηκαν όταν ο διακεκριμένος κιθαρίστας Ry Cooder, τo 1996 ταξίδεψε για Κούβα και μάζεψε κορυφαίους παλιούς μουσικούς όπως τον Ibrahim Ferrer,τον Compay Segundo, τον Eliades Ochoa και τον Ruben Gonzalez. Στην Αβάνα και στα Egrem studios ηχογράφησαν το Buena Vista Social Club το οποίο έκανε παταγώδη επιτυχία.. Έκτοτε το συγκρότημα έχει κυριαρχήσει στα chart της latin και όχι μόνο μουσικής και πραγματοποιεί sold out συναυλίες. Την προτελευταία φορά που μας επισκέφθηκαν, το Μαϊο του 2006, παρουσίασαν τη δουλειά τους στους κατάμεστους χώρους Αθήνας και Πάτρας, ενώτο ιδιο συνεβη και το περσινό καλοκαίρι σε Αθηνα, Πρέβεζα, Πάτρα και Ηράκλειο. Jesus "Aguaje' Ramos (Tρομπόνι) Γεννηθείς το 1951 στο Pinar del Rio, ξεκίνησε τις μουσικές σπουδές του στο National School of Arts. Ξεκίνησε με το τρομπόνι σε τοπικά γκρουπ έως το 1979 όταν μετακόμισε στην Αβάνα όπου άρχισε να παίζει με το σπουδαίο γυναικείο κουαρτέτο Los D'Aida. Την ίδια χρονιά πήρε μέρος στις ηχογραφήσεις του "Estrellas de Areito". Ο Aguaje συμμετείχε στις ηχογραφήσεις και του Buena Vista Social Club και των Afro-Cuban All Stars καθώς και στα σόλο άλμπουμ των Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzalez και Omara Portuondo. Ήταν ο musical director του Ruben Gonzalez και περιοδεύει συνεχώς από το 1997 με τα διάφορα projects του Buena Vista Social Club.Ο Aguaje κυκλοφορεί αυτό τον καιρό το δικό του, σόλο άλμπουμ. Manuel Galban (Κιθάρα και Όργανο) Ο Manuel Galban, κιθαρίστας, πιανίστας, οργανίστας και ενορχηστρωτής είναι ένας θεσμός στη Κουβανέζικη μουσική. Για πολλά χρόνια ήαν ο Μουσικός Διευθυντής του Κουβανέζικου doo-wop group Los Zafiros. Με ηγέτη τον Galban η μπάντα δημιούργησε έναν αμιγώς Κουβανέζικο ήχο, μια εκλεκτική μίξη από doo-wop, μπαλάντες και boleros, σόουλ και σάμπα, τούμπα και τουίστ. Το 1998 ο Nick Gold πήρε τον Galban για να παίξει κιθάρα στο ντεμπούτο του Ibrahim Ferrer. Η σχέση του Galban με τον Ry Cooder ήταν εξαιρετική. Το άλμπουμ των δύο, "Mambo Sinuendo', κέρδισε ένα γκράμι τον Φεβρουάριο του 2004. Barbarito Torres (Laud) Η επαγγελματική πορεία του Barbarito Torres ξεκίνησε το 1970 με τους Serenata Yumumina, ενα συγκρότημα του Higinio Mullens. Οταν αποφοίτησε ταξίδεψε με τους Siembra Cultural, που αργότερα ονομαστηκαν Grupo Yarabi. Τελικά αποφάσισε να μείνει στην Αβάνα και έγινε μόνιμο μέλος της Orquesta Cubana de Cuerdas.
